Peppy in Palm Beach by Ellen Kavanaugh

When I think of my favorite Florida designers, Palm Beach-based Ellen Kavanaugh immediately comes to mind. Her crisp palette combined with whimsey, cheer, and comfort can be seen on full display in today’s home tour… Built in 1985, the owners of this Palm Beach retreat wanted a happy home for their children and grandchildren to gather and build memories. The only problem is they may never want to leave! Let’s take a look inside with photography by Brantley Photography.

“The idea of home is almost always bound up in stories and the passing of time: the object passed down by a favourite grandmother; the thought of winter evenings by the fireside, the quiet hours spend reading a book in the armchair that catches the light at the right time of day.”  ~ Jenny Rose-Innes

Hosting & Houseguest Edit: Welcome Back to Hospitality

1

Summer break is positively flying — and so, it seems, are any number of houseguests traveling far and wide, eager to visit family and friends once again. We have long awaited the return of at-home hospitality, and Walmart has partnered with The Glam Pad to help us welcome back our guests — and our hostessing skills!

Simple creature comforts like fluffy new towels, makeup-friendly face cloths, fresh pillows, and cozy throw blankets are at the top of our shopping list from Walmart Home, which has quick-ship options available to deliver the goods even in time for the most spur-of-the-moment visitors.

When it comes to hostessing, here is one of our favorite tips: provide guests with a little bit of autonomy when it comes to refreshment. Self-serve options such as a drinks dispenser filled with iced cucumber or lemon water, a variety of tea available with the touch of an instant kettle, or even a dedicated wine cooler are all options available through Walmart Home. Shop the post for more of our picks for re-honing our hospitality skills below, and as always, see more of our favorite Walmart finds on LikeToKnow.it! Happy hostessing!

Thank you to Walmart for sponsoring this post!

Patina Homes with Brooke and Steve Giannetti

I have followed Brooke and Steve Giannetti’s blog, Velvet & Linen, for years now and also love all of their books, so naturally I was delighted to receive a copy of Patina Homes, their latest book, released by Gibbs Smith this year.

Twelve varied homes ranging from a beachfront contemporary to a historic East Coast farmhouse and a Provencal-style home in California showcase the collaboration of Steve’s architectural talents with Brooke’s chic interior design.  Modern, classical and industrial elements merge to create a unique style that draws upon history and creates a sense of timelessness.  Materials such as white plaster, grayed cedar planks, Bleached white French oak, limestone, and steel are used throughout, and a neutral palette embraces a sense of calm. Inspiration from the gardens is infused within along with natural linens, aged leather, and antique textiles. Everything is selected to give the homes a sense of comfortable tranquility. Nothing is precious.

Unless otherwise mentioned, photographs are from Patina Homes, reprinted by permission of Gibbs Smith.

High Drama Americana with Anthony Baratta

As Colonial Williamsburg’s first Designer in Residence, Anthony Baratta is known for his exuberant All-American style. So when recent clients purchased a pied-à-terre at the Apthorp on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, naturally they called upon him to capture their favorite decorating theme: historic Americana with an emphasis on textiles and folk art.

With large rooms to fill, Anthony scaled appropriately, selecting big sofas, high chairs, grand curtains, and a patriotic palette of red, white, and blue. References to Colonial design include matelasse-covered slipper chair in a bedroom, an armchair in a wool ingrain, and stripes found throughout from the entry and bedroom wallpapers to the tapes and trims on the furniture and curtains. The result is a whimsical home designed to delight and inspire!

Let’s take a tour with images from the July/August 2021 issue of VERANDA, in addition to previously unpublished photos provided to The Glam Pad.  Photography by Mark Roskams.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND!
