Artist Spotlight: Harrison Howard

7

If you love all things Chinoiserie and Palm Beach Chic, you will most certainly love the work of Harrison Howard. His delightful images will transport you into a whimsical, imaginative, playful, and exotic world that is so uplifting you will never want to leave. Recently, Harrison launched a new website, and in addition to his exquisite prints for sale, there is an “Other Work” section featuring never-before-seen projects and concepts he has produced over the years. It took my breath away, and I cannot wait to share!

But first, more about Harrison. He was raised on Philadelphia’s Main Line and traveled regularly in Europe with his family, including a year spent in southern France. Many of the paintings and antiques his parents brought home from those trips are now in the house where he and his wife live, and frequently he includes them in paintings. Harrison’s stellar client roster includes the Vanderbilt, DuPont, Firestone, Goodyear, and Dorrance families, actress Kirstie Alley, The Colony Hotel, Palm Beach, and the Royal Saudi Embassy Residence in McLean, Virginia. Interior design firm clients include McMillen Inc., Dorothy Draper, Inc., Irvine & Fleming, Pamela Banker, briefly a former senior partner of Parish-Hadley, Alessandra Branca, Katie Ridder, and Ross Thiele & Son. His work has been featured in Veranda Magazine, Architectural Digest, Town & Country, and Departures Magazine among others.

Although Harrison lives in San Diego, he has sold more prints of his work to clients in Florida than any other state, especially in the Palm Beach area. Here are a few of my favorites…

Harrison’s images have also been licensed by Caspari for a line of stationery and paper goods, lacquered wood serving trays, placemats, and other items. Here are a few of my favorite items from the collection…

Now, here are a few of the images from Harrison’s “Other Work” page… I about died when I came to these monkey maquettes in various colorways designed for a small powder room. They were derived from sketches he painted for a mural in a bathroom in Houston. The design actually became the inspiration for the “Monkey Business” design Harrison later licensed to Caspari. Today, these panels can be recreated and custom painted as pre-measured panels that could be installed by a paper hanger, but Harrison hopes to eventually have similar designs licensed to a high end wallpaper company. This design would make the most adorable powder room ever, and I have already decided that it will be a necessity in our next home!

Harrison accepts commissions, license imagery, and he is available to produce custom images for licensing. Here are a few more examples of his other work including logo design, custom illustration, and mural detail.

For additional information on custom work and licensing, please contact Harrison Howard. And for followers of The Glam Pad, Harrison is offering 25 percent off all prints from now through Sunday, January 24.  Click here to select your prints, and enter “rainbow5″ at checkout. (Discount valid on prints only.) They are beautiful hung as singles or grouped in a series!

Palm Beach Lately Baby Shower

I am a huge fan of the chic sisters of Palm Beach Lately, and I could not be more obsessed with the Palm Beach Chic baby shower that was recently hosted for Beth Aschenbach. The Colony Palm Beach was the perfect venue after its recent renovation with banana leaf wallpaper in the lobby, pink and white stripes in the guest rooms, and the overall Hollywood glam feel.

The fabulous floral flamingo centerpieces by Creations Production with a “Grace” banner attached to greenery that revealed the baby’s name.

Menu cards and invitations from Paper Please.

Banana leaf acrylic glasses, from Palm Beach Lately, doubled as party favors. Straws from Paper Trail by Lauren B.

One of Beth’s favorite gifts was the Swan rocker from Pottery Barn that perfectly fits her “Swan Soiree” themed nursery, created by Luxe Report Designs.

Cookies by The Sugar Monkey.

The Colony Hotel, recently renovated by Carleton Varney, was the perfect backdrop for the chic event.

Simply perfection, wouldn’t you agree? Please visit Palm Beach Lately for additional pictures and information. Now I just cannot wait to meet Baby Grace and see her fabulous nursery! What a lucky little girl!

Lettuce Ware Tureens by Tory Burch for Dodie Thayer Now Available!

Yesterday on Instagram Tory Burch posted that her new lettuce ware tureens are finally available, and I had to order one immediately! You may recall last spring Tory Burch partnered with Dodie Thayer, whose handmade lettuce ware has been a Palm Beach staple since the 1960s, to reproduce the highly coveted collection and make it available to us all. Original Dodie Thayer tureens sell at auction for tens of thousands of dollars, but now you can purchase this one from Tory Burch for just $350! I believe the entire Dodie Thayer for Tory Burch collection will also become highly collectable one day, so consider it investment. 🙂
