A Perfectly Preppy Christmas with Laurie Byrne Originals

One of my very favorite ladies on Instagram is Laurie Byrne of LB Originals.  Known on Etsy as the Preppy Paper Girl for her beautiful, custom paperie, Laurie is also an amazing decorator, and I have told her she simply must write a book to showcase her exquisite tablescapes. She also happens to be one of the best dressed fashionistas, and I would like to hire her as my personal stylist! I think it’s safe to say I have a total girl crush. Without further ado, let’s take a peek inside Laurie’s home, decorated to perfection for Christmas…

Pink, buffalo check, Staffordshire dogs, and vintage ornaments… This table is a dream come true!
Laurie has the most beautiful collection of monogrammed china and linens.

Like any proper Southern Belle, Laurie has an elegant collection of sterling flatware. I believe this pattern is Burgundy by Reed and Barton.

A lovely vintage Christmas village.
Such a brilliant idea to use a blue and white cachepot as a Christmas tree base!
My grandmother has gold goblets identical to these. Fond memories…

I must find some of these Staffordshire dog vases!
I love how Laurie has little touches of Christmas sprinkled everywhere throughout her home.

Aluminum Shiny Bright trees are a Christmas classic.
Another beautiful tablescape.
Brass pineapples and a tartan ice bucket are so festive.
Blue and white Staffordshire dogs? Yes, please!

Laurie expertly mixes her collection of Herend Chinese Bouquet in blue and green with other patterns.
Obsessed with Staffordshire dogs!
And Staffordshire dog ornaments!

Of course, pink bows are always welcome.

Laurie, will you please come decorate my house next year?? Thank you for so graciously inviting us into your home! To be inspired by more of Laurie Byrne’s style, please follow her on Instagram and Facebook, and check out her beautiful custom stationery, notecards, gift tags, etc. on Etsy.

A Pink, Blue, and White Southern Christmas

Laura Trevey from the fabulous blog Bold Bright and Beautiful posted a home tour this week featuring the most elegant home in Richmond, Virginia all glammed up for Christmas. The owners, Cary and Jay Nichols, have lived here for a little over three years, and every inch is decorated to perfection. Cary has a sophisticated style with a luxe touch and a flair for glamour, and for Christmas she has decorated each room with holiday trimmings to celebrate the season.

The combination of pink, blue, and white is absolutely my favorite color palate, and I could definitely move right into this stunningly gorgeous home. And how adorable is that antique high chair? This certainly puts me in the holiday spirit! For the entire tour, please visit Bold Bright and Beautiful, and for more of Laura’s home tours, click here. For more pink, white, and blue Christmas inspiration, please check out the beautiful home of Paige Minear of The Pink Clutch, which I featured last week.

Monograms for the Home

2

Can you believe Christmas is next week? I always love to give (and receive) books as gifts, and fortunately they also make a fantastic last minute solution. This year, I have purchased Kimberly Schlegel Whitman’s Monograms For The Home in bulk. It is the perfect hostess gift and stocking stuffer, and with Amazon Prime, it arrives in just two days!

Released this fall, and already in its third printing, Monograms For The Home serves as the definitive guide to monogramming in the 21st century. Through each chapter, Kimberly showcases luscious options for the entryway, table, powder room, bedroom, bath, kitchen, bar, nursery, living room, and seasonal entertaining. She also shares how to use monograms to create your very own personal logo and brand. Furthermore, Kimberly provides her signature modern day etiquette coupled with a rich history of monograms. Here are a few of my favorite images from the book…

“I love adding a signature touch to the elements of my home, a table setting or when I give a gift.  It’s wondering exploring the various ways that monograms and ciphers can enhance our homes.  Exploring personal branding made me realize how special, significant, and meaningful they are to so many people! Though Monograms at Home, readers will take a journey through the history, practices and use of monograms! Monograms are a beautiful way to embrace your personal style and add your signature touch in everyday life.” ~Kimberly Schlegel Whitman

Monograms For The Home is Kimberly’s seventh book. When the tastemaker and lifestyle expert isn’t writing books, she is busy creating her own line of linensbloggingdecorating, serving as editor-at-large for Southern Living, making national television appearances, and spending quality time with her husband and two beautiful children, all the while making the ordinary extraordinary in everything she does. Jan Showers, one of my all-time favorite designers, recently conducted a wonderful interview with Kimberly discussing her new book and how she achieves that elusive work/life balance.

What an inspiration! Jan also decorated Kimberly’s Dallas home and former bachelorette pad. Of course, they are perfectly exquisite! Click here to purchase your copy of Monograms For The Home today. And stay tuned as I will be showcasing some of my favorite monogramming resources.

Chinese Village Home for Sale

My favorite thing about Coral Gables, Florida, has to be the incredible “Villages” which were conceived in the 1920s as “The Village Project” by George Merrick. The Villages were designed to add diversity to the predominantly Mediterranean character of Coral Gables, aka “The City Beautiful,” by showcasing architectural styles from around the world.  Only 80 of the 1,000 planned residences were built, as Merrick’s vision was crushed by the Hurricane of 1926 and the ensuing Great Depression, yet today those that remain are highly coveted, carefully guarded jewels within our community.  I have shared homes from almost every remaining historic Village in The Gables, including:

Today, I’m thrilled to share a landmark 1920s historic home in the remarkable Chinese Village just listed for sale. It was masterfully updated by designer Alicia Kossick, described by Lucky magazine as a modern day Millicent Rogers, who preserved its original architecture and updated all the systems including the roof, plumbing, wiring, bathrooms, kitchen, and millwork. Alicia also happens to be the sister of the current owner… AND Alicia also purchased and remodeled the Chinese Village home next door, which longtime TGP readers will remember from the virtual renovation series by Beth at Chinoiserie Chic.

There are only a handful of Chinese Village homes remaining (click here for a tour via Curbed), and they rarely come on the market. This one is uniquely desirable as it has a large, beautifully landscaped yard and a spacious, modern master bedroom suite. Let’s take a look inside!

Built in 1926 by Henry K. Murphy and located at 5129 Riviera in Coral Gables, FL, this home features five bedrooms, four and a half baths, and is just under 3,000 square feet. It is priced unfurnished, but it is also available fully furnished, and everything within is for sale. Click here for the listing.

Alicia Kossick will be opening a pop up shop, The Polished Coconut, in Coconut Grove (Miami) from December 20, 2015 – March 20, 2016. Located at 3444 Main Highway, The Polished Coconut will feature retro tropical vintage resort fashion and home decor including handmade and socially responsible items from artisans across the globe.

Here are a few glimpses into Alicia’s home (I have been inside and it is absolutely STUNNING… full tour coming soon!) including items that will be for sale at The Polished Coconut…
